| Louisiana Big Band To Hold A Spring Fling Fundraiser Dance" | May 2nd, 2008 |
| Once again, the Louisiana Big Band will take to the stage and invites everyone to their "Spring Fling Fundraiser Dance on Friday, May 2, 2008 from 8-11 PM at the West Monroe Convention Center at 901 Ridge Ave., West Monroe, LA. The public is invited to this evening of fun as Brian Lassiter leads the band in the music of the 40s and 50s. This dance will support the continuation of the band and their dream of keeping live music part of the entertainment scene in our part of the state. Louisiana Big Band is made up of musicians from all over North Louisiana and South Arkansas ranging in age from 20-81 years old. They are a talented group of 15-18 people, who have contributed much to our area live music venues over the years. Sponsors for this important event are Angel Ministries, Cooley Digital Press, Corner Coffee House, and Max GXL. They are sponsoring a "Piece of the Dance floor" to keep the Big Band Sound alive. BYOB, Beer or Wine. A snack bar will be available and ice and setups, soft drinks, and water will be sold for $1.00. Tickets are $15.00 each and tables of 8 are $120.00 and are on sale at The West Monroe Convention Center office and at Zeagler's Music at 1401 18th Street, Monroe. Harvey's Dance Hall at DeSiard and Hall St., downtown Monroe will also be selling tickets on Thursday and Friday evenings. | Habitat for Humanity Launches Women Build Week | May 4th, 2008 |
| Habitat for Humanity of Ouachita is launching National Women Build Week May 4- 11, 2008 with a goal of framing two homes on May 10 with "Women Build". This is a program that gives women an opportunity to get involved in reducing poverty housing in Monroe, LA. More importantly, this event will help a family get out of substandard housing and into a NEW home! Wendy Miletello HFHO Development Director and chair of this project says, "75% of the volunteers for this event must be women! Women will be in leadership and support staff roles. Help Habitat for Humanity change two families lives for the better!" Volunteers are needed for construction crew, food services, volunteer management and more., Training dates will be available so everyone will know just what to do.
